About Lorenzo Sanchez

I am blessed to be living the American Dream. I was just ten years old when my family fled Cuba and the Castro regime with the hope of living in freedom. The Dutch Christian Reformed Church played a key role, helping us settle first in Miami and then in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Living in the Midwest could not have been more different than Cuba, and yet, it quickly became home.

My parents were ideal role models, teaching us to work hard, get a good education and have faith. After graduating from Aquinas College with a degree in business and political science, I moved to Chicago to attend the DePaul University College of Law. I met my wife in law school, and she is the reason I stayed in Chicago.

After law school, I gained experience in several industries including banking, higher education, and human resources. I served as the Director of Labor Relations for the Chicago City Water Department. In this role, I represented the city in labor negotiations with the unions and helped problem solve grievances. I learned how to build consensus among all kinds of people, a skill that has proved invaluable in my real estate career.

For the last two decades, I have been working with families, including many immigrant families, to buy their homes, businesses and investment properties. It is an honor to pay forward the many opportunities that I received, and help others build wealth and economic stability through the ownership of real estate assets. I have worked in the city and many suburban communities -- essentially wherever my clients want to buy or sell. My priority is serving as their fiduciary representative, ensuring they are well informed and make smart, long term decisions.

I was thrilled when Engel & Völkers came to Chicago. I was already familiar with this iconic global company from my travels. After working for a local Chicago company for several years, I was ready for the opportunity to take my business to a new level and form relationships with advisors in shops all over the world, especially in countries where my clients are still connected. Shortly after joining Engel & Völkers Chicago, I spent a week in Madrid, Spain, networking and learning about the European residential market. As an Engel & Völkers advisor, I provide my clients with higher quality targeted marketing, global web exposure and access to powerful network of seasoned, full-time advisors.

My wife and I live in Chicago’s northwest side. We have three children as well as a Brittany Spaniel. We enjoy going back to Puerto Rico to spend time with my wife’s family and ride paso fino horses, a breed that is unique to the island. I am excited for the day when Engel & Völkers expands into Puerto Rico as there will be ample opportunity to collaborate. In the meantime, my wife and I enjoy cooking, entertaining, and spending time with friends. With my Cuban heritage, it’s no surprise that the evening often ends with a group of us enjoying a fine cigar together.
