About Michael Schatz

I consider myself a seasoned executive with expertise in financial services, strategic partnerships, capital acquisition, sales and marketing. My clients benefit from a breadth of expertise and leadership that stands out in the residential brokerage industry as unique. I am resourceful, know how to structure deals that make sense, am a seasoned negotiator, and excel under pressure.

Over the years, I have owned and renovated homes in both the city and on Chicago’s North Shore. Increasingly, I came to realize that visualizing a home’s potential and transforming this potential into a reality is actually a passion. Mark Twain said, “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than that things you did.” So, after 30+ years in the financial world, I enthusiastically transitioned into residential sales.

Prior to getting my real estate license, I carefully researched my options for where I might settle down to work, and Engel & Völkers was the obvious choice. The company’s high-standards, coherent modern brand, and focus on integrity and expertise align with my values. The training, tools and resources are the best in the industry. In the last year, I have been actively building my network among Engel & Völker’s advisors around the United States, thus developing a broader pipeline of potential buyers and investors for the homes I sell in the Chicagoland area.

In addition to understanding home values, marketing, and neighborhood dynamics, I enjoy working with clients to help ensure their home sale or purchase is a competitive one in today’s challenging residential market. In many cases, the homes we sell require a substantial makeover, and I am uniquely qualified to advise my clients regarding updates that add value. Moreover, I have a team of contractors and other vendors whom I trust that can assist with any work that needs to be done, ensuring its timely and cost-effective completion. Additionally, my wife owns a residential landscape design and build company, Lotus and Lily, and she has proven to be a valuable resource.

We currently live in Glencoe, and love calling the North Shore home. Between Allison and I, we have seven children ranging in age from seven to 21, as well as four chickens, a French Mastiff and two English Bulldogs. We continue to learn about and enjoy our community through the adventures and misadventures of our large blended family.

In addition to family, my passion is photography. I thoroughly enjoy shooting nature, people and architecture.  Photographing the homes I sell has given me the opportunity to develop a more intimate understanding of their attributes, in turn enabling me to be a more effective salesperson on their behalf. It is truly a pleasure to bring together my passions and my skills in a profession where I can truly make a difference in the lives of my clients. If you are considering making a move or are looking for guidance before you begin updating for a future sale, I encourage you to call me. It would be my pleasure to be your trusted advisor.
