About Sophie Mehlman

With a background in real estate and hospitality, I’ve dedicated my life to curating exceptional experiences. Besides achieving positive results and helping clients build wealth through real estate, I thrive on helping people understand and take control of how space can shape and uplift their lives well beyond the closing date.

I’ve been fortunate to live all over the world in many of the same cities as Engel & Völkers shops. The experience of living in nine cities in five countries, on three continents is unique and integral to how I view the world. Without deep roots in one place, I have spent considerable time contemplating the fundamental question, what is home? Answering this personal question with my clients – whether they’re relocating, upsizing, downsizing, renting, or buying – has become my mission.

Before I started my career in residential sales, I was the expansion manager for a commercial real estate start-up. In this role, I launched company operations in ten cities across the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, negotiating leases and developing new-market business from the ground up. Previously, I was the General Manager of a boutique hotel in my home town of Montreal, Canada. There I learned the joys of operating a first-class business in a turn-of-the-century mansion while discovering my love for interior design, real estate and experience curation. For hundreds of international guests and celebrity visitors over three years, my welcoming nature and local expertise helped make Montreal feel like their home away from home. Now, I bring the same spirit to my clients as they buy and sell homes here in Chicago.

When I’m not busy unlocking the most beautiful spaces in Chicago for others, I can be found in my West Town loft creating my own answer to the question of home with Scout, my Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue and Matt, my life partner. I’m a sommelier who loves cooking (ask me about pasta making!), sailing on Lake Michigan, learning to fly small Piper planes, and dreaming up plans for an Italian resort in the mountains of Abruzzo.
